In the Yoruba tradition of West Africa, with its antecedents in ancient Egypt, Shango or sango is the orisha represented by lightning and thunder, picture and sound. The spirit of this orisha travelled with African peoples across the Atlantic and finds its boldest expression in the social, cultural and spiritual life of the Americas.
